The forecast didn’t deter a brave up & coming La Moye Junior Golf Team! The team travelled into the island first thing for the Inaugural Hawk Trophy, kindly sponsored by Hawk Group!
The chosen format was fourball better-ball and Team Manager Dan O’Brien had a mix of experienced players and fast improving younger players at his disposal.
His pairings chosen were; Conor McKenna & Lewis O’Brien, James Troop & Gus Carre, Alex Mills & Josh Neville and Jennie Bally & Tom Chamberlain.
Conor; leading the team out in the Junior Captain’s absence, & Lewis were down through six holes but put together a strong middle stint on the course which resulted in a 4/2 win.
James Troop & Gus Carre got off to a slower start than they would’ve wanted but won some key holes around the turn before a convincing finish for a 3/2 win.
Alex Mills & Josh Neville crucially won the half point needed to claim the Hawk Trophy! They were 1up through 17 holes but inclement weather on the last hole made it difficult to hold onto their lead.
Jennie Ballay & Tom Chamberlain found themselves down in the match for most of the day but emphatically won holes 14, 15, 16 & 17 for a 2/1 win! An amazing finish to an incredible show of golf.
The teams then enjoyed cheeseburgers & chicken nuggets in the clubhouse before visiting Vice Captain Ryan Hafey made a great speech and handed over the trophy to “Captain for the day” Conor McKenna.
Conor thanked Ann-Marie & Simon from La Moye for their help in organising and extended thanks to Rihoy & Son for their continued support of our team matches! The team also extends their thanks to Dan O’Brien for leading the team and to Past Lady Captain Val Austin for giving up her time in gale force winds to see the players off.
